Annual Irish Heritage Tribute Dinner
The Sons of St Patrick Union County, NJ annual Irish Heritage Tribute Dinner is the main event of the year for the organization. At this dinner two $5000 college scholarships are awarded to outstanding high school seniors of Irish ancestry. The Irish Man of the Year is also awarded, along with our Distinguished Community Service Awards. Money for the scholarships is raised via the dinner program booklet from our members.
Benevolence
The Friendly Sons of St Patrick Union County, NJ raise money throughout the year through special events organized by the members. These funds are used to support worthy organizations within the community including the Children’s Specialized Hospital, the Center for Hope-Hospice and the Salvation Army. The society also supports various national funds including and the clean-up after Hurricane Sandy.
Union County St Patrick’s Day Parade
The Union County St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee was founded in 1995 by a group of Irish American and Fraternal organizations including the Friendly Son’s of St Patrick Union County, NJ. The first parade stepped off in 1997 in the Township of Union, and it has grown to be the largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New Jersey.
Several members of the Friendly Son’s of St Patrick Union County, NJ reside on the board of the Union County St Patrick’s Day Parade. Other members volunteer to help manage the parade. With a wagon drawn by Clydesdales for the children, all members and their families are welcome to join in marching. Click for more information of the Union County St Patrick’s Day Parade.
Golf Outing
The Friendly Sons of St Patrick Union County, NJ host a golf outing in July at the Metuchen Country Club. This event has been a huge success in the community. Local area businesses sponsor holes, beverages and meals. Raffle prizes have included TV’s, Jet’s tickets and golf clubs.
Irish Festival
The Friendly Sons of St Patrick Union County, NJ gather to support the Annual New Jersey Irish Festival at Monmouth Park Racetrack. Members and their families enjoy the food, shopping and Irish entertainment at this festive gathering. Click for more information on the Irish Heritage Festival.
